Oculus Medium for Environment Sketches

I've been messing around with Oculus Medium since I got my Rift S the other week. Made these mecha temple shrines for this piece I am making. They're really sloppy, but Medium is a lot of fun to use. 


It's hard to describe, but it almost feels like you are sculpting in real life, but with Undo (which I need). I just wish the resolution of the screen was better and that my batteries for the controllers didn't die so quickly. I think I've started to get a hang on when to increase resolution, but it's a little hard for me to see the changes inside of the Rift. If I do most of my big shapes at a lower res they tend to have a larger, smoother edge at higher res. Cutting out shapes at higher res is more precise and definite. When I bring things that have been res'd up 4x or 5x they come in as 2.5 to 4.5 million points in Zbrush. I'm not sure how that part works. I'll see what I can figure out.


I am going to keep playing with it and try and build out most of my environment with it. I might see if I can record me making a piece just so people can see how easy it is to use.

Metroid Chozo ZBrush NPR

I finally got some time to mess around with the new NPR Filter from ZBrush. I thought I'd take the Chozo and do something with it. I've got one more I am doing, I'll post soon. It's easy to get lost in all of the settings just tweaking things. It's really cool!

Winged Mech Sculpt WIP

Here's s a little something I've been working on over the break. It's all ZBrush with two quick renders in Octane. The sculpt is still WIP, but it's pretty close. I might add in a few more elements (like an actual booster/thruster into the wings).  The materials are very WIP. I'm just trying to see what kind of material break up I want. I did an initial pass in KeyShot, but I really like the look and feel of Octane and decided to give it another shot. I think I will come up with an actual pose as well.

Insectoid Mech Dude

Work In Progress / 26 November 2018

I think I am almost done with this guy, but I am thinking of building out a little scene to put him and explain the heavy dust and give it a bit more story. The modeling/sculpting is all ZBrush. I tried poly painting and separating material for once on exporting to KeyShot. I'm also using a curvature pass to get my heavy dirt/dust layers and doing all the comp in Photoshop.

RBT Mech Gun V2

Ok. I think I am done with this one now. It took me a little while to figure out a few boolean issues, and I wanted to add in a few new things. Thanks Eddie Bauer for suggesting widening the barrel a bit. That made me realize I needed to change the muzzle to what I had initially thought of doing. I'm not sure why I didn't do it the first time.  Next time you see this it will be attached to an arm, lol.

RBT Mech Gun

Here's a WIP of the gun from RBT mech. I'm planning on having the arm connect to the underneath part of the gun where the slots are. I've been spending the week learning some of the new Zbrush features. This all ZBrush (with the exception of the main body of the canisters) using Project Primitve, the deformers, and Booleans. I'll have to do some smoothing and some cleaning after I actually do the booleans.

RBT MECH WIP

Hello peeps.

This is still WIP obviously of what I am calling RBT (it's a rabbit robot). I was going to start making some big last additions and start refining this, but then I saw how much easier it was going to be for me to do all of this starting tomorrow with the new release of Zbrush 2018, so I am going to hold off. :)
